Hosted by the Vermont Bar Association, this one-hour virtual CLE will provide an overview of H.98 (Act 31) and its implications for legal practitioners. The session will explore two key components of the legislation: Confirmatory Adoptions and Standby Guardianships.
Attorney Meg York will explain the new confirmatory adoption process, including eligibility, procedural updates, and how these provisions strengthen legal recognition for families formed through assisted reproduction.
Attorney Jill Martin-Diaz will then discuss the creation and implementation of standby guardianships, focusing on how this new legal tool can help families plan for continuity of care in times of crisis or incapacity. Participants will gain a practical understanding of how to advise clients, navigate new court procedures, and ensure compliance with Vermont’s evolving legal framework.
