“The Jeffersonville 17”

On the morning of November 5, 2025, a Border Patrol enforcement action took place at a gas station in Jeffersonville, Vermont, resulting in the detention of at least five local residents. The individuals were initially apprehended by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and subsequently transferred to ICE custody. According to Migrant Justice, those detained are separate from the 17 individuals held at the Northwest State Correctional Facility earlier in the week. The organization reports that families of the detained have requested privacy, and limited information is currently available regarding their identities or circumstances.

VAAP confirmed that none of those detained in Jeffersonville were among those encountered during its detention visit to NWSCF the previous evening, suggesting that the group may be transferred to out-of-state facilities, such as Berlin or Plymouth. Migrant Justice noted that this incident fits within a broader trend of intensified immigration enforcement in Vermont and nationally, documenting over three dozen ICE and Border Patrol actions in the state since 2017, resulting in more than 100 detentions of immigrants. Both VAAP and Migrant Justice are coordinating to provide legal and community support to those affected.

From CBP: "On Nov. 5, 2025, at approximately 5:35 a.m., a targeted operation was conducted by U.S. Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations at the Maplefields’ gas station in Jeffersonville, VT. Several subjects were detained during the operation, and after further investigation and record checks, seven individuals were ultimately arrested and placed into removal proceedings. Due to privacy considerations, we are unable to release the names of the individuals or additional details regarding the circumstances of the operation."
